The better the education, the higher the progress of the level of civilization of a nation. No civilization is truly progressive without education. Education is part of the civilization, those can influence each other, an advanced civilization naturally produce an advanced education system. Advanced education and civilization are influenced by several aspects of education, one of which is curriculum. Curriculum has become the heart of education as well as being the main support, constructive elements and pedagogic formulations to optimize the learning process in the classroom. The curriculum also become signs that would help to achieve educational goals easier and becomes a plan or scenario that provides the widest possible space for students to develop the potential that already exists within them. This study aimed describing the high school subject teachers' perceptions about the curriculum reform in Lombok Timur, describing the perceptions of high school subject teacher regarding the impact of curriculum reform on the student learning outcomes and describing the perceptions of high school subject teacher regarding the impact about curriculum reform on the teaching and learning activities. To gain the teacher perceptions, the study was conducted in Focus Group Discussions (FGD) which divided into two sessions. To triangulate the findings, the thematic analysis, document analysis and observation were applied. The result showed that the subject teachers have vary perceptions regarding the change. Some participants said that changes did not need to be made because the intensity of changes was frequent enough to make teachers confused, but there were several teachers who give their voices that the changes needed to be made due to the conditions of the times and demands had changed, these changes followed the changing times. Participants said that the curriculum change gave impact on the student learning performances and teaching and learning activity. Moreover, the subject teachers are optimistic with the simple administrative support of change and content designed by the ministry. However, the subject the number of professional development should be increased to improve the subject teacher capacities particularly offline in-service training, differentiated learning model and Pancasila Student Profile Strengthening Project.Item Open Access Improving Access to Higher Education for Low-Income High School Students Through PIP and Student’s Mentorship : Scholarship Awardee Experiences in Lombok(LPPM Institut Pendidikan Nusantara Global, 2023-05-27) MashurThe low-income high school students culturally have had very challenging experiences to go to colleges or universities. As experienced by the participants, they tend to have more difficulties compared to the high-income school students. PIP (Program Indonesia Pintar) is financial aid in the form of cash, expanded access, and learning opportunities from the Indonesian government for students who come from low-income and vulnerable families to finance their education, to increase the number of education sustainability and to decrease the dropout rate from the primary school level to senior high school level in Indonesia. There are 31 students involved in this study which are 15 males and 16 females. These samples of the study were the recipients of the KIP-Kuliah, GenBi and campus scholarship from three universities in Indonesia. In collecting the information, the novice researcher did literature review and disseminated an online survey with open-ended questions to the scholarship recipients regarding their experiences before getting into and during study in the universities to provide evidence on the uses of PIP and the benefits of student’s mentorship. Besides, the researcher exploited sharp discontinuities in the program eligibility formula to identify and analyze the impact of the PIP and student mentorship for the low-income student outcomes at different level of study at the level of freshmen, sophomore, junior and senior at their universities.Item Open Access Strategy in Teaching Reading Comprehension of Descriptive Texts : A Literature Review Perspective(Scientia Integritas Utama, 2022-08-19) MashurEnglish is an international language that can be used to support human needs in doing communication and interaction. In improving communication skills, students were required to have the ability in comprehension of a reading such as a descriptive text. Through reading activity, students got information, experiences and actions from the text. Moreover, the habit of reading would help students a lot in gaining new words and phrases to use in daily conversation. To have the ability, the student taught reading comprehension used KWL strategy. KWL strategy stands for Know-Want to Learn/Know-Learned. This strategy has three basic cognitive steps, namely accessing what the students Know, determining what the students Want to learn, and recalling what the students did Learn as a result of reading. In process of reading comprehension using KWL strategy involved prior knowledge, knowledge of text structure, and active search information. In this study, the researcher used a literature review in analyzing the applications of KWL strategy from various references and the study found that the KWL strategy was effective in teaching reading comprehension of English descriptive text. It also can improve the classroom atmosphere in teaching English for EFL learners.
