Item Open Access A portrait of multicultural education in an Indonesian private school : perception, approach, and implementation(Universitas Islam Internasional Indonesia, 2023) Ririn Karina Nur'aeni; Tati Lathipatud Durriyah; Bambang SumintonoIndonesia is a multicultural country with a wide range of religions, races, ethnicities, cultures, and languages. Because of a lack of understanding in Indonesia of the value of plurality, these differences frequently serve as the reason for inter-community clashes. This research focuses on these issues in the context of multicultural education in schools. Schools, in addition to family education, play an important role in nurturing students to understand, tolerate, and respect diversity. In this regard, this study explores how school community perceives, approaches, and implements multicultural education as an attempt to create multicultural citizens. This study employed qualitative approach using case study design in Indonesian private school in West Java. It involved seven participants from different backgrounds to gain their perspective regarding multicultural education. Documentary research and observation were also conducted to collect the data. The validity and reliability were assured through triangulation and member checking as an attempt to keep data trustworthy. In doing the analysis, the Quirkos software was used as an effective analytical tool. In addition, some ethical issues and research positionality were also stated. The following conclusions have been reached based on the evidence: First, principal, teachers, students, perceive that education must address student differences. They believe that God create diversity intentionally. They also believe uniqueness of human being and the diversity that exists in Indonesia. Second, the school community translated their perception into school vision, mission, and the projected rules. School also provides teacher development, curriculum design, and educational services as the strategies to promote multicultural education. Third, the implementation of multicultural education was manifested through the school culture, integrated curriculum, teachers' critical pedagogy and the annual cultural exhibition.Item Open Access A Rasch analysis of the International Personality Item Pool Big Five Markers Questionnaire : Is longer better?(University of Novi Sad, 2023-05-24) Hanif Akhtar; Bambang SumintonoThe 50-item International Personality Item Pool version of the Big Five Markers (IPIP-BFM) is an open-source and widely used measure of the big five personality traits. A short version of this measure (IPIP-BFM-25) has been developed using the classical test theory approach. No study was performed to examine the psychometric properties of a longer and shorter version of IPIP-BFM Indonesia using modern test theory. This study aimed to evaluate the psychometric properties of the Indonesian version of IPIP-BFM as well as IPIP-BFM-25 using Rasch analysis. The analysis was conducted in order to test their dimensionality, rating scale functioning, item properties, person responses, targeting, reliability, and item bias on 1003 Indonesian samples. The findings showed that both IPIP-BFM and IPIP-BFM-25 Indonesia have some adequate psychometric properties, especially regarding category function, item properties, reliability, and item bias. However, the emotional stability and intellect scales did not meet the assumption of unidimensionality, and all items on the scales were too easy to endorse by participants. In general, longer measures outperformed shorter measures in terms of person separation and reliability. Further testing and refinement must be conducted.Item Controlled Access Afghan girls' child marriage and its impact on their educational journey in Afghanistan(Universitas Islam Internasional Indonesia, 2024) Delju, Zulaikha; Nina Nurmila; Destina Wahyu WinartiThrough the historical lens, education in Afghanistan has gone through many ups and downs, especially regarding women’s education and the challenges Afghan women face due to instability in female education. Education is essential for personal and societal advancement, but gender inequities, cultural norms, and continuous violence in Afghanistan limit access, especially for girls through child marriage. This study has three objectives: (1) to investigate the elements influencing parents' choices regarding their daughters' young marriages, emphasizing their lack of concern for education; (2) to explore the consequences of early marriage on Afghan girls’ educational opportunities, (3) to explore how educational opportunities contribute to a better life for Afghan girls. This study uses qualitative research methodology to investigate Afghan girls' child marriage and its impact on their educational journey in Afghanistan. The data were collected through semi-structured or in-depth online interviews. This study involved three types of participants: (1) parents, (2) married girls who continued their education, and (3) girls who married young and were unable to continue their education. The participants in this study are from different provinces of Afghanistan, comprising 20 participants. The study's findings identified (1) multiple factors that lead parents to decide on the early marriage of their daughters, such as safety concerns, cultural norms and expectations, economic pressure, a lack of parental education, and the ban on female education; (2) the consequences of early marriage on Afghan girls’ educational opportunities are the interruption of education, mental and physical health issues, and limited educational support; (3) education has a positive impact on Afghan girls' lives in terms of empowerment and independence, improved quality of life, resistance to harmful practices, and enhanced social status. This research addresses the data gap concerning child marriage and its educational consequences, offering new insights where limited studies exist. By highlighting the role of girls' education in sustainable development, the research aims to raise awareness and potentially reduce child marriages. It emphasizes the human rights violations inherent in child marriage and advocates for young girls' educational rights. The findings can assist national and international organizations in community awareness initiatives and inform evidence-based policymaking to end child marriage and promote girls' education. Ultimately, the study seeks to influence stakeholders to prioritize investments in girls' education and protection from early marriage, enhancing the quality and number of educated females in Afghanistan's workforce. Lastly, this research recommends a permanent international policy for Afghan women's education and human rights. In case of any political instability, women's education should be safeguarded.Item Open Access Analisis kesahan kandungan instrumen kompetensi guru untuk melaksanakan pentaksiran bilik darjah menggunakan model rasch pelbagai faset (content validity analysis of an instrument to measure teacher’s competency for classroom assessment using many facet rasch model)(Penerbit UKM, 2022-05-01) Rosyafinaz Mohamat; Bambang Sumintono; Harris Shah Abd HamidKesahan kandungan instrument adalah penting bagi memastikan item-item yang dibina berupaya mengukur perkara yang sepatutnya diukur dan membincangkan sejauh mana item mewakili kandungan yang dimaksudkan. Kajian ini bertujuan menguji kesahan kandungan Instrumen Kompetensi Guru untuk Melaksanakan Pentaksiran Bilik Darjah (IkomGuruPBD) dengan menggunakan analisis Model Rasch Pelbagai Faset (MRPF). IkomGuruPBD terdiri daripada 56 item yang dibina berdasarkan 3 konstruk utama iaitu Pengetahuan PBD, Kemahiran PBD dan Sikap terhadap PBD. Reka bentuk kajian adalah kaedah tinjauan kuantitatif dengan pendekatan penilai berganda (multirater) menggunakan soal selidik IkomGuruPBD yang telah diedarkan kepada 12 orang panel pakar. Setiap pakar perlu menentukan tahap persetujuan mereka tentang kesesuaian setiap item dengan menggunakan skala Likert 3 mata terhadap tiga aspek penilaian bagi setiap item. Dapatan menunjukkan antara kelebihan MRPF adalah boleh menentukan tahap ketegasan penilai dan konsistensi penilai, juga mendapati dapatan respon luar jangkaan. Walaupun setiap penilai diberi instrumen, aspek penilaian dan kategori skala yang sama, namun MRPF boleh membandingkan tahap ketegasan secara individu bagi setiap penilai. MRPF juga boleh mengesan kualiti item untuk membantu pengkaji mengenal pasti item yang baik dan item yang lemah untuk ditambah baik. MRPF mempunyai kelebihan untuk memberikan maklumat yang lengkap mengenai ciri psikometrik bagi IkomGuruPBD yang diuji.Item Open Access Attraction of Authority: The Indonesian Experience of Educational Decentralization(Springer, 2023-07-14) Bambang Sumintono; Hasan Hariri; Umi Anugerah IzzatiThe fall of the New Order government in 1998 changed the landscape of Indonesian education from a highly centralized system to a decentralized one. With this paradigm shift, district governments received a transfer of power in most public sectors in 2001, including education. The central questions in this chapter are: (1) How has Indonesia managed education in the decentralization era? and (2) How has the country managed the changes so far? Four key issues are discussed, namely, new regime of standardization, school operational cost, teachers and principals, and National Exam. We argue that Indonesian educational decentralization has mostly been about legitimacy and authority dialectics between local/district and central institutions. Moving from a highly centralized system to a more locally oriented one contests the legitimacy of each actor involved, resulting in competition for resources and survival. Nevertheless, we also identified some advances in terms of social justice and student learning support in this process of decentralization.Item Open Access Beyond the charisma of Islamic boarding school leaders : countering potential abuse through enhancing critical thinking and critical dialogical abilities of the 'led'(Universitas Islam Internasional Indonesia, 2023) Supriyono; Bambang Sumintono; Lukman Nul HakimIn response to the pressing call for enhancing the critical thinking and critical dialogical abilities of the students at pesantren (Islamic boarding schools) in Indonesia, this study delves into the 'dark side' of charismatic leadership commonly adopted by these *indigenous Islamic educational institutions. The inquiries stem from rising reports of sexual abuse at pesantren institutions and scrutinize the romanticized axiom of charisma in leadership that is often overshadowed by extreme admiration, blind idolization, and unquestioning obedience, which leads to sparing limited or even no room for the followers to question and criticize, making them vulnerable to power abuse. Hence, this study draws upon the insights of 24 participants from two pesantren institutions in East Java, probing their perceptions, practices, and reflections on charisma and obedience, A multiple case study design is employed within a qualitative research framework, utilizing document analysis, focused group discussions, interviews, and observations for the data collection. Triangulation techniques in both data collection and data sources are used for validation to enhance the credibility and trustworthiness of the data, which is analyzed using software-based thematic analysis through Quirkos. This study also addresses ethical considerations and the researcher's positionality to maintain academic integrity and methodological rigor. The findings suggest that the student's critical thinking and dialogical capabilities are not a mere function of the leadership style in pesantren. Rather, these aspects span a broader spectrum, hinging on the Islamic educational models that they adopt, here contested by adab (moral disciplining) and tarbiyah (critical dialogue). Exclusive reliance on adab leads to unbalanced charismatic leadership, fostering a patriarchal culture conducive to power abuse, including sexual abuse. Conversely, combining both adab and tarbiyah promotes a balanced charismatic leadership where adab (moral) forms the basis while critical thinking and dialogue serve as control mechanisms. In practice, critical thinking acts as an alarm, enabling students to discern whether their leaders' commands align with Islamic principles, while critical dialogical abilities serve as a countermeasure, empowering students to assertively challenge potential misconduct. This research highlights the importance of the control element in charismatic leadership, complementing the three components suggested by previous studies: basis, emotional connection, and signaling communication. Consequently, these findings lay the groundwork for further research to delve deeper into the dark side of charismatic leadership in the Islamic school setting, given that charisma meets religiosity could yield benefits on one hand, but potentially negative consequences on the other.Item Open Access Beyond the classroom walls: exploring parental involvement on children’s interest development in EFL learning (A case from Indonesia)(Taylor & Francis, 2024-04-12) Naning Tri Wahyuni; Tan Bee TinThis study reports the findings of a case study that followed a group of Indonesian primary school EFL learners (10–11 years old). They were observed in school and at home and interviewed with their parents. The study highlights various ways children can develop an interest in learning English and how parents help shape their children’s interests. Four students who demonstrated different patterns of interest development were selected for detailed analysis. Through these cases, the study attempts to understand the role of parents in developing interest in EFL learning. All four child participants were provided with a similar supportive learning environment at school, suggesting that their differences may have primarily been attributed to their different home learning environments, parental involvement, and parenting styles.Item Open Access Challenges and opportunities to collaborative distance learning in ESP instruction(Prodi Pendidikan Bahasa Inggris Fakultas Pendidikan dan Sains Universitas Swadaya Gunung Jati, 2023-11-30) Arfiyan Ridwan; Tera AthenaIn post pandemic instruction fueled by digital media and technology, distance learning emerges as a powerful opportunity for higher education collaboration. The Directorate of Students’ Learning, Ministry of Education and Culture of Indonesia opens opportunities for universities across Indonesia to have collaborative online learning with those students based on underprivileged regions in Indonesia. This research investigates a case of collaborative online learning project between two universities in East Java and East Nusa Tenggara province with two ESP courses designed collaboratively and implemented with shared classes in online mode. Through this case study, two things are explored during the program: challenges and opportunities in the stage of course development and course implementation. Two course developers, four university instructors, and thirteen selected students from both universities were involved in this study. Data collection combined interviews, virtual observations, and instructional documents. Analysis employed thematic layering and triangulation, revealing challenges in four areas: course development, technology readiness, teaching methods, and student support. However, rooms of improvement are there for more prepared future collaboration. Despite the challenges, collaborative distance learning conducted by both universities can be a lesson to learn for a better online instruction in the future amidst the pluralistic backgrounds of the students and problematic technology support.Item Open Access Child Marriage and Its Impacts on the Education of Girls in the Rural Gambia : Focus on Niani District(Universitas Islam Internasional Indonesia Press, 2022-12-28) Barrow, Abdou; Bah, Yahya Muhammed; Sanneh, MbassiTwenty-one percent of young women married before the age of eighteen. Approximately 650 million girls and women are married before their 18th birthday (UNICEF, 2020, 2021). States member of the United Nations, through its Sustainable Development Goals, has committed to ending child marriage globally through laws, legislation, and other means. Though the practice of child marriage is declining globally, it remains prevalent in Africa and Asia, particularly in the Gambia. This study looks at the impact of child marriage on girls' education in rural Gambia and the factors that encourage it. The researchers conducted qualitative case study research through documentation, Focus Group discussion (FGD), observation, and interviews to collect data. The study's findings indicate that child marriage has negative impacts on girls' education in rural Gambia. This reveals the fact that the percentage of girls enrolled in schools, especially high school, is lower than boys. Girls also face more difficulties than boys to complete, retain and transit to secondary or higher education. This leaves them with no future and excludes them from social or economic advantages. The factors that encourage child marriage are included: religion, poverty, culture, lack of meaningful opportunity, older men's desire for younger women to marry, and the failure of law enforcement. These factors mentioned repeatedly perpetuate the practice of child marriage, and undermine the educational opportunities for the majority of girls in the Niani district of Gambia. Therefore, the researchers recommend that the Gambian government enforce the existing laws and regulations to protect children’s fundamental rights and put into practice the necessary regulations on the prohibition and elimination of this phenomenon.Item Open Access Coping with Objectification : Female English Literature Students’ Physical Identity Development as Emerging Adults(Language Center of Universitas Teuku Umar, 2023-05-23) Difa Mahya ZaharaEmerging adulthood is a stage where identity exploration is one of its developmental tasks. As most modern-age emerging adults participate in higher education, educational context becomes decisive in understanding their identity development, including the physical identity (body image) of female college students, especially considering the increasing participation of women in higher education which reflects the necessity to attend to their educational and developmental needs. This study draws qualitative data through a phenomenological study of four female college students of an Islamic university in an urban area of Indonesia, specifically the English Literature students. By applying the feminist theory of objectification and the concept of emerging adulthood, this study aims to understand how female college students experience objectification specific to their educational context and how it impacts their physical identity development as emerging adults. This study finds that objectification is experienced by female college students through the curriculum; learning contents, media, dress codes, and students-lecturers, students-peers, as well as students-staff relationships. The experiences indicate negative views of their physique during the college years reflected in negative subjective experiences (shame, anxiety, disrupted peak motivational states, and diminished awareness of internal bodily states), as well as eating disorder risks. However, an overall positive body image is observed in the current time once graduating which rather reveals a non-appearance-focused physical identity—physical health, comfort, and safety—achieved through contextual and reflective thinking. Thus, this study suggests the implication of college or higher education as a facilitator of emerging adults’ physical identity exploration.Item Open Access Cultivating Children’s Social Awareness in The Multicultural and Diverse Community : A Perspective From Empathetic Teaching(Department of Social Science , IAIN Syekh Nurjati Cirebon, 2022-12-30) Popi RoseptiThe multicultural and social diversity urge children to build social awareness skill which drives them to consciously aware of specific range of social experience from a specific point of view. In educational setting, this becomes a concern because children spur into cultural diversity in their daily life so that teachers take a role to facilitate them with the ability to adapt with the situation. One of the ways in meeting the issue is through implementing empathetic teaching which is a concept of teachers showing their compassion to students. Therefore, the main framework of this study is to elaborate the concept and investigate further how empathetic teaching can allow teachers to cultivate social awareness to their students in the perception year. The originality of the paper lies in offering a conceptual framework of empathetic teaching through mapping the main relevant literatures and identifying and engaging with the central theoretical issues while suggesting a perceptual framing of classroom setting in childhood education. By analyzing the data using content analysis, the findings reveal that empathetic teaching practiced by teachers can be beneficial to build children’s social awareness through having good perception on their exposure to the surrounding. This also allows them to have an ability to adapt in the diverse community by appreciating differences to promote a social peaceful life in this contemporary world.Item Open Access Curriculum change and its impact on Senior High School students' learning outcomes and teaching and learning activities : teacher perceptions in Lombok Timur(Universitas Islam Internasional Indonesia, 2023) Mashur; Destina Wahyu Winarti; Charyna Ayu RizkyantiEducation is one of the tools to shift civilization. The better the education, the higher the progress of the level of civilization of a nation. No civilization is truly progressive without education. Education is part of the civilization, those can influence each other, an advanced civilization naturally produce an advanced education system. Advanced education and civilization are influenced by several aspects of education, one of which is curriculum. Curriculum has become the heart of education as well as being the main support, constructive elements and pedagogic formulations to optimize the learning process in the classroom. The curriculum also become signs that would help to achieve educational goals easier and becomes a plan or scenario that provides the widest possible space for students to develop the potential that already exists within them. This study aimed describing the high school subject teachers' perceptions about the curriculum reform in Lombok Timur, describing the perceptions of high school subject teacher regarding the impact of curriculum reform on the student learning outcomes and describing the perceptions of high school subject teacher regarding the impact about curriculum reform on the teaching and learning activities. To gain the teacher perceptions, the study was conducted in Focus Group Discussions (FGD) which divided into two sessions. To triangulate the findings, the thematic analysis, document analysis and observation were applied. The result showed that the subject teachers have vary perceptions regarding the change. Some participants said that changes did not need to be made because the intensity of changes was frequent enough to make teachers confused, but there were several teachers who give their voices that the changes needed to be made due to the conditions of the times and demands had changed, these changes followed the changing times. Participants said that the curriculum change gave impact on the student learning performances and teaching and learning activity. Moreover, the subject teachers are optimistic with the simple administrative support of change and content designed by the ministry. However, the subject the number of professional development should be increased to improve the subject teacher capacities particularly offline in-service training, differentiated learning model and Pancasila Student Profile Strengthening Project.Item Open Access Development and validation of students’ competency instrument on science process skills(Atlantis Press, 2024-08-22) Ellyza Karim; Syakima Ilyana Ibrahim; Hanani Harun Rasit; Bambang SumintonoScience process skills are fundamental to science learning and consequently promote scientific literacy among students. Scientists use these skills to construct knowledge during investigation. Thus, science process skills should be acquired not only by scientists, but by all individuals. This study reviews the validity and reliability of an instrument development for science process skills usinginterval rating scale as answer choice ranging from poor to excellent. This instrument was developed based on the perception of 300 respondents who were the primary school leavers, aged thirteen. As the instrument was newly developed, a pilot study was conducted to determine the empirical proof on the validity and reliability of the test. A total of 68 items were constructed in the test using verified indicators based on the experts and literature reviews. Rasch Measurement Model was employed to analyse the data. Overall, the person reliability is found at 0.97 while the item reliability is 0.99. The range of Point Measure Correlation (PMC) is positive between 0.33 to 0.67 for all items. All items are accepted as the outfit mean square (MNSQ) has the range between 0.59 and 1.55 while the infit MNSQ is between 0.74 to 1.56 indicating a good measure of latent variables for item fit. Based on the item map, the findings suggest that, for experimenting skill, only 11% of students could design scientific steps independently. Meanwhile, for using space and time relationship skill, respondents reported that the item ‘determination for the object position with time’ was the most excellent item. The scale used in this instrument was also found to adequately measure the latent constructs of science process skills.Item Open Access Digital competency mapping dataset of pre-service teachers in Indonesia(Elsevier, 2023-05-05) Muhammad Luthfi Hidayat; Hariyatmi; Dwi Setyo Astuti; Bambang Sumintono; Meccawy, Maram; Khanzada, Tariq J.S.This dataset used the Digital Competency Scale (DCS) to describe Indonesian pre-service teachers’ perceptions. The DCS instrument consisted of five constructs/dimensions, which are: 1) data and information literacy, 2) communication and collaboration, 3) digital content creation, 4) safety, and 5) problem-solving, with a total of 36 items using five-point agreement Likert scale. The data was gathered from 23 education and teacher training faculties at Muhammadiyah Universities in 14 provinces across Indonesia in the academic year 2021/2022. A total of 1400 students (18 to 23 years old) in their first to fifth years of study were recruited using the convenience sampling technique, where they participated in filling in the survey electronically using Google Form. The dataset was analysed with the Rasch model measurement approach using WINSTEPS version 5.2.3 software for data cleaning and validation, and reliability and validity testing of the instrument. This dataset analysis can help teacher-training institutions, or higher education policymakers design effective programmes to improve pre-service teachers' digital competencies. Furthermore, researchers can compare this dataset with more rigorous data from other countries.Item Open Access Disinformasi di YouTube : pemilihan presiden 2019 dan 2024(Aliansi Jurnalis Independen (AJI) Indonesia, 2024-07-24) Purnama Alamsyah; Gustaf Wijaya; Lukman Nul HakimKesenjangan (gap) literasi digital salah satunya karena kurangnya minat baca dan cek fakta, membawa arus deras hoaks dan disinformasi seakan tidak terbendung (Kemenkominfo, 2022). Penanganannya juga mengalami banyak tantangan, di mana sumber daya yang ada seakan tidak sebanding dengan arus deras disinformasi. Hal ini kemudian dimanfaatkan pihak–pihak tertentu untuk menciptakan situasi yang menguntungkan salah satu kelompok. Dalam kontestasi politik, hal ini tampak nyata. Bagaimana saling serang terjadi, kampanye – kampanye kasar dengan disinformasi dan hoaks yang menyesatkan pun terjadi. Kemudahan konten diproduksi, serta kebebasan berpendapat di Indonesia yang tidak dibarengi dengan etika yang memadai, membuat konten – konten keruh bertebaran. Bagaimana informasi ini bergulir di Youtube, fenomena apa saja yang muncul, utamanya dalam periode Pemilihan Presiden 2024? Serta topik–topik apa saja yang menjadi “sumbu” utama disinformasi? Pertanyaan–pertanyaan ini akan coba dijawab oleh bab ini.Item Open Access Divorce Narratives and Class Inequalities in Indonesia(SAGE Publications, 2023-02-02) Rachel Rinaldo; Eva F. Nisa; Nina NurmilaIn the past 20 years, divorce has increased in Indonesia. Indonesian statistics show that divorces initiated by women exceed those by men. One issue that is often neglected is how socioeconomic differences also play a role in this matter. Drawing on our collaborative research on Muslim divorces in Indonesia, this paper focuses on the interplay between divorce strategies and socioeconomic differences among Muslim couples. Our in-depth interviews with 93 Muslim men and women and 19 judges from Islamic courts show that class differences shape distinctive dynamics of divorce among Muslim Indonesians. Couples from less educated, lower-income backgrounds accept marriage dissolution more easily, with women becoming much less tolerant of men’s behaviors such as infliction of domestic violence, infidelity, and failure to provide financial support. Educated, middle-class urban couples divorce for similar reasons but tend to experience a lengthier process accompanied by complex layers of conflict. Many educated women’s narratives emphasize their ability to support themselves through working, and a desire to be free of a bad marriage at any cost. Class and education thus contribute to significant differences in the experience and trajectories of divorce in Indonesia.Item Open Access Education Sector COVID-19 Response Plan and Its Implication on Inclusive Education in the Gambia(Language Center of Universitas Teuku Umar, 2022-09-23) Barrow, AbdouDuring the early hours of 2020, COVID -19 terrorized the world by forcing many countries to close their borders and restrict internal movement by imposing a state of national emergency which was geared toward lockdowns for months in some areas for years. The Gambia was not an exception to this trajectory and one of the sectors heavily stroked by this lockdown was education. As a result, “the Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education (MoBSE)” designed a Response framework to curb learning loss across the country. This study aimed to analyse the policy and describe the implication it has on inclusive education. The qualitative research method was used imploring the interpretive approach in the analysis. Despite the nobility and ambitiousness of the policy, the findings from the analysis revealed that the policy had a serious blind spot in the area of inclusion because many children are left out because of their inability to access the mediums where lessons are delivered. Many households in rural Gambia did not have a stable electricity supply or even own a television or radio set, therefore it was impossible for children in these communities to benefit from the program. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mempromosikan membaca nyaring dan pemilihan buku interaktif dalam pembelajaran literasi bagi guru Sekolah Dasar Negeri di Depok, Jawa Barat, Indonesia. Studi kasus kualitatif ini mengeksplorasi pemahaman dan praktik guru dalam memilih buku dan mengintegrasikan kegiatan membaca nyaring dengan hasil pembelajaran dalam Kurikulum Merdeka. Enam guru berpartisipasi dalam penelitian ini, yang melibatkan pengumpulan data melalui survei, focus group discussion (FGD), wawancara, observasi dan refleksi lisan. Dengan menggunakan analisis data tematik manual, penelitian ini berfokus pada praktik guru memilih buku berjenjang dan mengintegrasikan diskusi dalam membacakan nyaring dengan Hasil Pembelajaran (Capaian Pembelajaran). Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa guru mulai mengungkapkan pemahamannya terhadap pemilihan buku. Tema besar yang muncul seperti; pemilihan buku berkualitas penting serta tantangan dalam memilih buku yang berkualitas. This research aims to find out the stages of learning management in Islamic subjects using Active Learning Strategy (ALS) to stimulate student involvement in the classroom. The data collection methods used are observation of teachers to observe how the ALS process is implemented in the classroom, interviews with teachers regarding learning management, and documentation by looking at lesson plans that have been made by teachers. The study of MTsN 4 Barito Kuala in South Kalimantan province where this school has successfully integrated Islamic subjects, student involvement, and ALS. The results of this study are: 1) We can track all the teachers' planning through the lesson plan they made and the document stated clearly they stimulate students to be active. 2) Teachers have implemented various ALS methods such as Everyone Is A Teacher Here, Index Card Match, and Team Quiz so that the atmosphere created is fun, warm, and enthusiastic. 3) To appreciate as well as encourage students to be engaged, teachers do not only assess the cognitive aspects of students but extend the range of evaluation to the affective and psychomotor domains using Behaviour-based Evaluation so that all processes are taken into account.Item Open Access Empathy-based stories of bullying at boarding school : students' perceptions and expectations(Universitas Islam Internasional Indonesia, 2023) Zulfikar; Charyna Ayu Rizkyanti; Lukman Nul HakimBullying in Indonesian boarding schools is like an invisible iceberg. The Indonesian Child Protection Commission reports 30 to 60 incidents annually, with 226 cases in 2022 alone. However, the actual numbers may be higher. Despite numerous bullying studies, none have utilized the method of empathy-based stories for data collection. The study aimed to use empathy-based stories to comprehend bullying at Boarding School X in Bogor, West Java. By Qualitative approach, the fictional narratives were used to be effectively capturing emotions and situations. There were 20 students were engaged as the primary source. Along with observations and interviews, three inquiries delved into bullying dynamics, students' expectations, and the method's effectiveness. The findings show boarding school bullying is more distressing than in public schools due to close interactions and limited parental contact. Those involved in bullying experience fear and sadness. Students seek supportive relationships with parents and the school, and friends offer them a safe outlet to express themselves. This study shed a light how the empathy-based stories create a secure space for students to share emotions, preserving self-esteem and amplifying their voices. While the study has limitations due to exam schedules, the effective method holds promise for future applications due to its success and lack of use in Indonesian research data collection.
